The Amazing Rainforest

Rainforests are among the most amazing places on our planet. They grow in warm, wet regions near the equator, where it rains almost every day. Although rainforests cover only a small part of the Earth, they are home to more than half of all the plants and animals in the world. The tall trees form a thick green roof called the canopy, which blocks most of the sunlight. Scientists believe that many useful medicines come from rainforest plants. Unfortunately, people cut down thousands of trees every year for wood and farmland. If we do not protect these forests, countless species could disappear forever, and the whole planet will suffer.
