Laundry Day

For Sam, Sunday is laundry day. During the week he is too busy, so the dirty clothes pile up in a basket in the corner of his room. By the weekend, the basket is full. First, Sam separates the clothes into two piles: light colours and dark colours. He learned this the hard way, after a red sock once turned all his white shirts pink. Then he puts the first load into the washing machine, adds detergent, and presses the start button. While the machine runs, Sam cleans his flat and washes the dishes. When the wash is finished, he hangs the clothes on a rack near the window to dry. He does not own a dryer, so on rainy days the clothes take longer to dry. Folding the laundry is his least favourite part. He often leaves the clean clothes in a pile and folds them later while watching television. It is not perfect, but the job gets done.
