The Oldest Tree

High in the mountains of California grows a tree that is almost five thousand years old. It was already alive when the first pyramids were built in Egypt. The tree is not tall or beautiful, and its wood is twisted by wind and cold. Scientists keep its exact location a secret, so that visitors cannot damage it. In such a hard, dry place, growing slowly is what has helped the tree survive for so long.
